Abstract

This paper presents the excitation H/sub /spl infin// controller design, based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, which results in damping of power system oscillations and control of terminal voltage simultaneously. The important advantage of LMI based H/sub /spl infin// design is that the weight selection is more easier than the Riccati based H/sub /spl infin// design. Damping of power system oscillations and simultaneous control of terminal voltage for single-machine infinite-bus power system is demonstrated through simulation studies. Further, the proposed controller is more robust and resulting in better performance than the conventional controller, AVR and PSS.
