Abstract

Humphrey Llwyd (c. 1527–68) was a humanist scholar, royal servant, and politician. He was born in Denbigh in Wales around 1527, attended university at Oxford between 1547 and 1551, and spent most of his adult career in the service of Henry Fitzalan, earl of Arundel. He also served as a member of parliament for East Grinstead in 1559 and as a member for the Denbigh Boroughs in 1563. In 1566–67 he accompanied Fitzalan on a tour of the Continent, visiting Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. He died in 1568 at the age of 41.
