Abstract
During the past decade, there has been great success in the application of lung transplantation. There are now experienced and successful lung transplant programs around the world. One of the most exciting developments has been the application of living lobar lung transplantation. This procedure was pioneered by the University of Southern California group. In this issue of the American Journal of Transplantation they report their perioperative experience in 253 lobar donors (1). The absence of perioperative mortality and low rate of complication is a testament to rigorous donor selection, expert operative management and perioperative care.
