Summary

Introduction

Community forest is one of the strategies adopted for the protection, conservation and development of forest resources and improvement of environment and livelihood. Over the past few decades, Community Based Forest Management (CBFM) has evolved as the key strategy of conservation as well as promoting local livelihood, especially in developing countries like Nepal. In Nepal, community forestry policy was originally, introduced for environmental conservation, which may have reduced the forest resources necessary for the livelihood of disadvantaged or marginalized people (Dhakal, 2005). Past studies show that the community forest strategies became more effective in the Hills and less in the Terai (Mahat, 1998).
