Abstract

This chapter explores a possible interplay between 'lived religion' and pupils' expressions in Norwegian religious education workbooks. It explores pupils' expressions in religious education workbooks historically and by way of contextual analyses of external terms and influences. One of author's conclusions is that over a fifty-year period the most influential external factor is the pupils' religious education textbooks. Although there are traces of a textbook in two of the pupils' documents chosen for this chapter, the focuses mainly on the creativity of the children. Methodologically, the chapter uses a general hermeneutical approach. The interpretations in this chapter represent ?informed subjectivity,' i.e. the author's receptive reading is supplemented by relevant theory. After an introduction to ?lived religion' referring to Heimbrock the chapter presents and discusses the pupils' expressions. The chapter also adds a few remarks on the possible consequences for religious education. Keywords: lived religion; Norwegian religious education workbooks; pupils' expressions; religious education
