Abstract

In our work we used radioactivity log in identifying depositional facies using Continuous wavelet transform and Discrete wavelet transform. The wavelet coefficients indicated the high and low evergy depositional sequences. The scalograms are obtained using a multiscale analysisto to evaluate the high and low frequency components of the signal. The scalograms show a high correlation with the facies log obtained from geological core studies. The wavelet analysis provides a qualitative guide for the identification of lithological properties in wells. Our analysis are based on Vicksberg and Frio formations of the Stratton oil field of the Rio Grande Embayment of the Gulf Coast Basin in Mexico.
