Abstract

A new fossil stag beetle (Lucanidae), Litholamprima qizhihaoi sp. nov., is described and figured from two well-preserved specimens from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation in western Liaoning, China (125 Ma). Aditionally, new material of female specimens of the genus Litholamprima Nikolajev & Ren, 2015 provide further evidence for the taxonomic position of other fossil stag beetles that share a similar habitus with species of Litholamprima. The new discovery enriches our knowledge of the biodiversity and early evolutionary history of stag beetles during the Cretaceous.
