Abstract

Treatment of o-phenylenebisphosphine, 1,2-(PH 2) 2C 6H 4, with n-BuLi in THF affords 1,2-{Li(THF)(PH)} 2C 6H 4 ( 1), which in turn yields 1,2-{Li(tmeda) 1.5(PH)} 2C 6H 4 ( 2) on treatment with tmeda ( N, N, N′, N′-tetramethylethylendiamine). 2 loses tmeda in vacuum to give 1,2-{Li(tmeda)(PH)} 2C 6H 4 ( 3). 1 reacts with Cp 2ZrCl 2 to give Cp 2Zr[1,2-(PH) 2C 6H 4] ( 4), which is more readily available by the reaction of Cp 2ZrMe 2 with 1,2-(PH 2) 2C 6H 4 in refluxing toluene. The IR and NMR spectra of 1, 2 and 4 are discussed.
