Abstract

Electrochemical characterization of lithium and manganese rich composite (xLi2MnO3-yLiMO2) cathode material (LMR-NMC) reveals that the Li2MnO3-derived component after initial charge process is continuously oxidized throughout the entire charge process. However, this component only makes the capacity contribution as the operating potential is below 3.6 V (vs. Li/Li+) during the discharge process. This irreversible redox reaction results into the voltage hysteresis. Structural investigation, such as by XRD confirms an irreversible charge and discharge process. In this work, the impact of cut-off voltage on the LMR-NMC performance was investigated. The voltage fading rate was lessened by lowering the cut-off voltage.
