Abstract

The electrical conductivity of samples having Li4SiO4 and Li3VO4 in solid solution has been studied as a function of both temperature (in the range 30°–300°C) and composition by the a—c technique. The highest conductivity (∼ 10–3 ohm-cm-–1 at 200°C) was found at 40 mol% Li3VO4. The activation energy was around 0.45 eV. The conductivity value was comparable to that of Li3·6Si0·6P0·4O4 and Li14Zn(GeO4)4, the two most conducting lithium solid electrolytes reported so far. DC polarization study indicated that the transport number of lithium ion was more than 0.95 and the electronic conductivity was at least 5 orders of magnitude lower than that due to ionic migration.
