Abstract

In this work, the nature of big ship owner of rural real estate of the Church in the old Kingdom of Granada is analyzed. Specifically, we will center in the Bishopric of Guadix and in three of it's most important institutions: the Cathedral Chapter, the Main Factory and the Royal Hospital. Besides the analysis of the origin, quality and quantity of it's rural real estate, we will touch subjects like it's parceling and exploitation. With this, we will approach the social and economic life in the Kingdom of Granada in the XVIth century and the actions that the Castilian elites, in this case the Church, supported with regard to the Moriscos, the true agrarian proletariat of this time in this region. For all of the above, we will mainly use the catalogue of the real estate of these institutions, written in 1538.
