Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present the most important findings of the editor made during the preparation of publication of four initial books of lyrics published in Poezyje Franciszka Dionizego Kniaźnina reką wlasną pisane ( Franiszek Dionizy Kniaźnin’s Poetries, Written in His Own Hand ), or the so-called Pulawy Manuscript (Rekopis Pulawski). The findings in question concern: the messages and archetypes of the poems from Kniaźnin’s manuscript, published earlier in “Zabawy Przyjemne i Pozyteczne” (“Pleasurable and Useful Entertainments”), ephemera and three collections authored by the poet, namely Erotyki ( Erotic Poems ) from 1779, Wiersze ( Poems ) from 1783 and Poezje. Edycja zupelna ( Poetries. Complete Edition ) from 1787; dating of the works and determining the reasons behind their creation; the presence of translations in the autograph and the author’s notes that relate to them; the choice of addressees; and finally, references to authentic places and events connected with the everyday life of the Czartoryski family or those important for all the citizens of the Republic of Poland, which Kniaźnin included in his text.
