Abstract
A liquid-liquid extraction and spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of trace amounts of zinc. Zinc is extracted at pH 8.0 with N-phenylcinnamohydroxamic acid and with stearylamine and determined spectrophotometrically after the addition of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol. Beer's law is obeyed over the range 0.05–1.92 p.p.m. at 550 nm and 0.04–1.90 p.p.m. at 550 nm with molar absorptivities of 5 × 104 and 5.8 × 104 l mol–1 cm–1, respectively. The effects of diverse ions are discussed. The method was applied to the determination of zinc in high-purity alloy samples.
