Abstract
Nonan-2-one is a novel solvent with extremely low solubility in water to extract dihydroxy benzene from coal gasification wastewater. In this work, the liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the ternary (nonan-2-one + benzene-1,2-diol/benzene-1,3-diol/benzene-1,4-diol + water) systems were determined at 298.15, 313.15, 323.15 and 333.15 K under 101.3 kPa. According to calculation, distribution coefficients show that nonan-2-one can offer good extraction performance and selectivity parameters. The NRTL and UNIQUAC models were used to correlate the experimental data and the binary interaction parameters were obtained. The root mean square deviation values of the two models are similar and lower than 0.021, which means the two models can estimate the LLE data accurately. Nonan-2-one is an efficient extractant for separating dihydroxy benzenes from wastewater.
