Review: Low molecular weight liquid crystals have been used extensively in electrooptic displays. New non‐polymer thermotropic materials (see figure for an example) have now opened the way to further technical applications such as anisotropic reaction media, brake and clutch systems, laser optics and, of course, more varied electrooptic devices. magnified image
