Abstract

I show the benefits of liquid crystallinity in soluble crystalline organic thin film transistor (OTFT) materials. Liquid crystallinity helps us to control molecular alignments and fabricate uniform crystalline films by solution process. Our developed OTFT material, phenyl-benzothienobenzothiophene derivative, Ph-BTBT-10, shows good transistor performance after thermal annealing. Furthermore, the variation of transistor performance is quite small, and the standard deviation divided by average is less than 10%. I conclude that the best use of liquid crystallinity in OTFT materials is the key for practical applications of OTFTs.
