Abstract
Novel liquid crystalline compounds containing phenylperfluoroazomethine and cyclohexylperfluoropropene moieties have been synthesized. The perfluoroazomethine compounds exhibited large Δε values of up to 24.3, which is greater than those of the trifluorobenzene or trifluoromethoxybenzene derivatives that are used in TN‐TFT LCDs. The perfluoropropene compounds exhibited low values of Δn (0.044–0.057) as well as large Δε values (6.3–8.1), which are the properties required for reflection‐type LCDs.
