Abstract

AbstractThe liquefaction resistance and the small strain shear modulus G0 of saturated Fujian sand with low plastic fines were evaluated with cyclic triaxial and bender element tests. The testing program encompasses a wide range of initial void ratios, confining stresses, and fines content from 0% to 30%. The results show that the influence of fines content on the liquefaction resistance and G0 can be characterized predominantly by the equivalent granular void ratio (e*). The liquefaction resistance of Fujian sand with Shanghai silt decreases as e* increases, which resembles the results of sands containing non-plastic fines. Furthermore, a notable relationship between the liquefaction resistance and the G0 was presented, which can potentially be used to evaluate the liquefaction resistance of silty sand using G0.KeywordsSilty sandLiquefaction resistanceSmall strain shear modulusEquivalent granular void ratio
