Abstract

The essential oil from the leaves of Lippia alba was analyzed by GC (retention indices) and GC/MS. Linalool proved to be the major constituent (78.9%), besides 1,8-cineole (6.5%), germacrene D (35%), β-caryophyllene (2.7%) and α-terpineol (2.0%). This species is worthy of examination as a rosewood oil substitute.
