Abstract

Introduction: Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults. Liposarcomas arise not from mature fat cells but from primitive mesenchymal cells. They are not believed to develop by malignant transformation of lipomas. The hallmark of liposarcoma is the lipoblasts. Liposarcomas commonly arise in the retroperitoneum and extremities. The incidence of head and neck liposarcoma is low: 5.6%. (2) The mean age is in the 50s, with slight male predominance. World Health Organization (WHO) classifies liposarcoma into four subtypes: well differentiated, myxoid, round-cell and pleomorphic.
