Abstract

Summary Three cases of lipoma of the colon and rectum are reported. In the patient with a rectal lesion, prolapse of the rectal mucosa was the presenting symptom; the second patient had a lipoma of the sigmoid colon, and the third had a large lipoma of the transverse colon with intussusception and almost complete bowel obstruction. Excision of the lipoma was done in two cases; partial colectomy with end-to-end anastomosis was performed in the third. All the patients made good recoveries and became free of symptoms. The literature on the subject is reviewed.
