Abstract

This chapter discusses the possible to observe the therapeutic potential of the combination of natural compounds and classic chemotherapeutic drugs as well as their encapsulation in lipid-based nanocarriers. Additionally, several examples of formulations at different stages of development for co-delivery of chemotherapeutic agents and natural compounds will be also presented and discussed. Some natural compounds have chemopreventive effects, proven by both in vitro and in vivo studies, and their loading in lipid-based nanocarriers along with classical anticancer drugs is considered a promising alternative in cancer therapy. Indeed, due to complex etiology and pathophysiology of cancer, generally single-target treatment is effective and therefore believe that a combination of natural compounds and anticancer drugs is the most promising approach. In this chapter, it was possible to observe the therapeutic potential of the combination of natural compounds and classic chemotherapeutic drugs as well as their encapsulation in lipid-based nanocarriers.
