Abstract

High basal level and the rate of stimulated lipid peroxidation was found in all organs of the scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis. Level of basal and stimulated lipid peroxidation in total membrane fractions from the organs of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius was practically negligible. The highest rate of Fe 2+-ascorbate-stimulated lipid peroxidation was observed in the hepatopancreas and gonads of scallop. The rate of stimulated oxidation in the gonads was maximal before spawning (March-April). During spawning, in May, the rate of lipid peroxidation decreased but increased during the post-spawning period (July-August). There were no consistant differences in glutathione-peroxidase activity and glutathione and α-tocopherol concentration in organs of S. intermedius and M. yessoensis. In scallop gonad, all these parameters varied with the changes of lipid peroxidation during the reproductive cycle.
