Abstract

1. 1. The fatty acid composition of the total lipids, the triglycerides and the phospholipid classes of the cropmilk has been determined with gas-liquid chromatography. 2. 2. In total, 21 different fatty acids were identified, 18:1 being the predominant acid. 3. 3. Each of the lipid classes showed a specific acid pattern with general features common to tissues of land vertebrates. 4. 4. A considerable amount of essential fatty acids, especially from the linoleic acid family, are available in the cropmilk. 5. 5. The procentual fatty acid composition of the triglycerides and of the total lipid extract changes slightly after the first week of lactation.
