Abstract

Hormone producing tumors account for 5 to 8% of ovarian neoplasms and Lipid cell tumors of the ovary account for less than 0.1% of allovarian tumors. These are a heterogeneous group of tumors composed of cells with morphologic features suggestive of steroid hormonesecretion. Historically they have been labeled as lipid cell tumors, adrenal-like tumors, masculinovoblastomas, adrenal rest tumors, suggesting varied source of origin. Approximately 75% of these tumors are known to be functional with production of one or more steroidhormones associated with virilization. Androgen secreting tumors of the ovary should be kept in mind in young women with secondaryamenorrhea and Cushingoid features.
