Abstract

Within head and neck cancer surgery, access to the oropharynx will sometimes necessitate a mandibulotomy with a lip split. Different lip incisions have been described over the years in an attempt to reduce the morbidity of lip scarring but patients are often still left with unsatisfying results which only serves as a reminder of their past illness. Furthermore, by avoiding a lip split the integrity of the orbicularis oris sphincter is preserved and therefore function not compromised.
