Abstract

Abstract This article examines the thesis that an improved expert-lay people communication on the state of the art of CO 2 storage is a necessary first step and a prerequisite in order to enhance public acceptance. Main goal of such an expert dialogue is to clearly identify consent and dissent on several aspects in regard of CO 2 storage. In order to address the issue of establishing a forum of expert dialogue, the Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Risk Governance and Sustainable Technology of the University of Stuttgart has applied the Delphi method in order to enhance transparency about expert judgments on various issues in regard with the storage of CO 2 . In this article the Delphi method is described and as it was applied to establish expert dialogue on the state of the art as well as on communicative aspects. Furthermore the article gives an outlook on following steps to communicate the results to local residents and the public.
