Abstract

Although consideration of public policy addressing health care issues is not germane to all manuscripts published in all nursing journals, public policy is a priority of the American Academy of Nursing and its journal, Nursing Outlook. Given this priority, nurse authors should consider the relevance of their manuscript topics to public policy and, when appropriate, explicate the linkages between the topic and specific public policies. Readers certainly may extrapolate policy-relevant concepts and strategies, but authors could greatly facilitate readers' understanding by explicitly stating these important linkages.
