Abstract

In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), the existing literature work does not provide information about the occurrence of Backoff collision. In this paper, we introduce a link-utility-based Improved Backoff Cooperative MAC (LIBC-MAC) protocol. In this MAC protocol, when nodes along the transmitting path lie in different transmission region, then cooperative transmission is invoked by the corresponding node. Cooperative paths are selected by finding link utility value, which is computed in terms of transmission type, rate, power, link lifetime and bandwidth. Further, our technique utilizes an improved backoff algorithm to mitigate the problem of collision. The backoff algorithm is based on number of nodes and degree of mobility. Through simulation results we prove the efficiency of our technique. Our technique effectively eliminates the hidden node problem.
