Abstract

We present the highlights of a comprehensive survey of deep long-slit spectra along the minor axis of bulges of edge-on spiral galaxies. The main purpose of the work is to analyze stellar population gradients in order to discriminate between different formation scenarios for the bulges of spirals. Our results indicate that dissipative collapse is the main formation scenario, although, in some cases, subsequent star formation processes can alter the stellar populations in the central regions of, specially, bulges in late-type spiral galaxies.
