Abstract

In this work, a linear-to-circular (LTC) polarization conversion metasurface (PCMS) was proposed and studied. By placing PCMS close to a patch antenna, the PCMS converted a linearly polarized wave generated from the patch antenna into a circularly polarized wave. The PCMS antenna was designed to operate at the same frequency of about 13GHz with the patch antenna. With an axis ratio less than 3dB in 12.7–14GHz, the PCMS antenna possessed a much wider axis ratio than that of the conventional patch antenna by computer simulation. To verify the simulated results, the PCMS antenna was fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results showed good agreements. Based on the designing technique, a setup of polarized conversion antenna could be developed and applied in the future.
