Abstract

A model for the packing density of multisized grains is presented. For a given mixture, the packing density is expressed as a function of the fractional solid volume of each grain size present. The case of grain sizes continually distributed is derived. Comparison of model predictions with binary, ternary and higher-order mixtures is quite encouraging.
