Linear multistep methods for the numerical solution of volterra functional differential equations†

Abstract

In this paper the Dahlquist Henrici characterization of convergent methods for ordinary differential equations is extended to Volterra functional differential equations. This result is then used to show that every convergent linear multistep method for ordinary differential equations can be extended to a convergent method for Volterra functional differential equations.
