Abstract

The γ phase of Fe-Pd alloys was stabilized by additional elements such C, Ni, Mo and Si in order to obtain a large linear magnetostriction and good workability. These alloys exhibit a large longitudinal linear magnetostriction at room temperature in a relatively low magnetic field, and its value is about twice that of pure Ni. In addition, the cold working of these alloys is easily carried out. The concentration dependence of the ΔE effect for Fe-Pd alloys containing Mo is not similar to that of longitudinal linear magnetostriction.
