Abstract

Linear free energy correlations have played a major role in the development of physical organic chemistry and have led to many of the now widely used concepts of reactivity. This paper reviews the application of linear free energy correlations to the field of gas-phase ion chemistry. The results indicate that many of the concepts developed to systematize liquid-phase properties and reactivities are applicable to gas-phase ionic systems. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
