Abstract
Linear biref ingence in LiRb 4H 4(SO 4) 4 and deuterated LiRb 4D 3(SO 4) 4 crystals was studied in the temperature range 25–300 K. A square of the morphic linear birefringence (Δ n) c 2 is linearly dependent on temperature ( T c − T). The negative isotopic effect was found to be very distinctive (⋍ 14 K). The possible origin of this effect is discussed.
