Abstract
Hybrid Electric Vehicles driven by electric vehicles are very promising in reducing emissions by maintaining high efficiency. The presence of inverters for the electric vehicles adds additional cost and maintenance to the overall system. Line start PM motor is a very encouraging technique for hybrid electric vehicles without any need of inverters and requires very less space. A line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor with conducting sleeve is introduced in the paper. The conducting sleeve helps in reducing the overall rotor losses and torque ripples of the LSPM motor. The construction of this novel LSPM motor is very simple as compared to the cage rotor LSPM motors. Finite element analysis and experimental results are also presented.
