Abstract

Measurements have been made of the line shapes of the Balmer series of hydrogen/deuterium in the edge and divertor regions of the Alcator C‐Mod tokamak. The lower series members show mostly Zeeman splitting and Doppler broadening. The higher series members exhibit considerable Stark broadening. These measurements are being used to determine the magnetic field strength, ion temperature, and electron density in the edge and divertor regions. Examples of measurements from the various regions of the tokamak are presented.
