Abstract

Last year a client asked me for advice on how to shoot a proposed seismic survey. He showed me a map of his program, and it looked something like Figure 1. Five east‐west lines and one north‐south line cover the lease area for a total of about 13 miles of shooting — quite an efficient coverage of the prospect. The only problem is that the target depth is about 12,000′, or nearly two and a half miles. Therefore, if we had shot the survey as planned, we would have recorded in the middle of each east‐west line dip up to only about 20° in either direction.
