Abstract
The intensity of the mercury yellow and green lines is generally very much higher than that of the cadmium lines so that it is difficult to get a photographic record of the rings in all wavelengths simultaneously without burning out or blurring the more intense lines. The cadmium red, in particular, is generally weak and the standard method is to give an additional exposure to this line through a Wratten 25 filter. The author has found that the situation can be much improved by exposing through an Ilford Dilute Complementary filter GA 1.5. This holds back the mercury green and yellow lines and slightly reduces the cadmium green. The cadmium red, blue and violet lines are unaffected and it is possible to obtain a useable plate throughout the spectrum in this way.
