Abstract
In this article we present the basic principle of operation and the current status of LINC-NIRVANA, the upcoming interferometric near-infrared imaging camera for the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). Using the exceptional optical design of the LBT for homothetic mapping at a large scale twin-telescope, LINC-NIRVANA will provide an unique combination of high angular resolution (≈ 9 mas), wide field of view (≈ 100 arcsec 2 - both values given for J-band) and large collecting area (≈ 100 m 2 ).
