Abstract

A total of 19 taxa of larval fish was collected with metered plankton nets in Ohio and adjacent Ontario waters of the western basin of Lake Erie. Analysis of yellow perch, Perca flavescens, collection data indicates that shallow inshore areas serve as important nursery areas for this species. Collection of larvae provides evidence of relict breeding populations of lake whitefish, Coregonus clupeaformis, and sculpin ( Cottus sp.) in the western basin.
