Abstract

Immigration from the Third World to Italy Odo BARSOTTI and Laura LECCHINI. Italy, traditionally a country of out-migration, has, since 1975, become the destination of increasing flows of workers, coming from developing countries. This paper examines the determinants of that radical change in Italian migration patterns as well as the numbers and the demographic and social characteristics of the immigrants. Special attention is devoted to the position of guest-workers in the labour market. Moreover, the integration process and Italian migration policies are discussed.
