Abstract

The trouble is not only that the methods used by Konstantinov, director of the institute, and Petrov, head of the sociology laboratory, are in conflict with the ethical principles of Marxist sociology. What is also bad is that they do not permit us to obtain reliable information. "We need complete and accurate information," wrote V. I. Lenin. "And the truth must not depend upon whom it is supposed to serve." (1) A Marxist sociologist is always aware that he is responsible to the people for his findings. He, like every scientist, places the truth above all else. And it is not at all easy to explain the truth, particularly when information comes to a researcher directly from the subject.
