Fascination with altered physiology under extreme conditions led to many groundbreaking studies in the 1960s, including the observation of children’s ability to tolerate exercise up to 3050 meters (10 000 feet).1 With advances in management of children with single-ventricle physiology, it was natural to ponder the impact of the same and associated alveolar hypoxia on required palliations.
