Abstract

Barbara Kettley, a nurse working with South Bedfordshire's Macmillan Service, believes that Macmillan Nurses should be a resource for other health professionals and should not be used simply as an emergency service. As an ex-District Nurse herself, she also understands how rewarding it can be for district nurses to care for dying patients at home. 'You have to realise that district nurses are fully trained and competent and that caring for the dying patient at home is one of the most rewarding parts of their job'.
