Abstract
Summary: Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common compressive neuropathy of the upper-extremity. The frequency with which it is treated surgically results in a significant amount of cumulative postoperative morbidity in the form of pain and disability. Several techniques have been used to decrease this morbidity including endoscopic carpal tunnel release (CTR) and limited open CTR. The use of the Safeguard Mini-CTR System for limited open CTR provides a reliable method for alleviating carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms safely, while limiting postoperative pain and functional limitations. The technique for CTR using the Safeguard system and the literature regarding this and other limited open techniques is reviewed.
