A patient with congenital ventricular septal defect and acquired rheumatic mitral stenosis with atrial flutter was noninvasively studied. The influence of atrial flutter on Doppler flow patterns across the mitral valve and the limitations of the pressure half‐time method for estimating mitral valve area in the presence of atrial flutter are discussed.
