Abstract

AbstractA finite element nonlinear shell model has been developed using Reissner's symmetrically loaded shell‐of‐revolution theory. This model is capable of modelling nonlinear strains, large rotations and nonlinear materials. This paper discusses the limitations of this model by deriving the basic equations and describing the simplifying assumptions used in the theory and the model. Possible extensions of the model are discussed also.
