Abstract

This paper considers a long, perfectly plastic, cylindrical shell subjected to uniform internal pressure in the absence of longitudinal load. It is reinforced by rings with rectangular or T-cross-sections. Its limit pressure is obtained on the basis of a discrete representation of the reinforcing rings, taking into account their strong curvature. It is shown that simple parameters suffice to describe the results obtained, and are presented in graph form, together with a numerical example.
